Accusump

Accusump is an oil accumulator that is connected to the engine’s oil system and is used to protect the engine against temporary oil pressure drop. The system stores oil under pressure during normal engine operation and keeps it ready to be released again if the oil pressure falls. This makes Accusump a relevant solution in tuning, motorsport, and custom builds, where the engine may be exposed to heavy load, strong G-forces, or other conditions that can cause oil pressure fluctuations. Accusump is also used as a pre-oiler, allowing oil to be supplied to the system before startup.

One of the major advantages of Accusump is that the system can help protect the engine in situations where the oil pickup temporarily loses supply, for example during hard cornering, heavy acceleration, or braking. Instead of the engine being left without lubrication during those critical seconds, Accusump can release the stored oil and help maintain lubrication until normal oil pressure returns. This is exactly why Accusump has become a popular solution on actively driven cars where a complete dry sump system is not necessarily being built.

Accusump units are among the best-known solutions within oil accumulators and are developed with a focus on precision, durability, and reliable function. The units are built from solid aluminium tubes with a smooth surface and an internal Teflon coating, which contributes to high wear resistance and long service life. The internal pistons and end caps are made from machined aluminium, creating a robust construction developed for use in demanding engine and motorsport environments.

An important part of the construction is also the built-in pressure relief valve, which helps provide increased safety and better control over the system’s function. On some Canton Racing Accusump models, for example versions with an electric EPC valve, a specification such as 35-40 PSI indicates the pressure range where the system begins to release oil from the Accusump unit to the engine and then refill the unit again afterward. This makes it easier to adapt the solution to the desired function in the specific engine setup.
