Catalytic converters
Catalytic converters are used to reduce harmful emissions in the car’s exhaust system and are an important part of legal road use, engine technology and correct exhaust construction. A catalytic converter helps convert harmful substances in the exhaust gases into less harmful emissions, so the car can meet requirements for environment, inspection and daily use.
When choosing a catalytic converter, it is important to check pipe diameter, length, cell count, material type and placement in the exhaust system. A correctly chosen catalytic converter gives better fitment, correct flow and a better opportunity to maintain a useful balance between performance, sound and emission control.
On tuned cars, turbo cars and cars with larger exhaust systems, the original catalytic converter can in some cases be a restriction. Here, a sports catalytic converter or high flow catalytic converter may be relevant if you want better flow than standard, while still keeping a catalytic converter fitted.
