Pedal boxes

Pedal boxes are used especially in motorsport, trackday, rally, drift and custom builds, where there are greater demands for control, adjustability and precise brake feel than in a standard car. A pedal box is a complete pedal control unit, typically used for brake, clutch and in some cases throttle, depending on the setup. In performance and motorsport applications, pedal boxes are often used as an important part of a more direct and adjustable braking system.

A pedal box makes it possible to build a more motorsport-oriented pedal setup, where the driver gets better feel, faster response and greater opportunity to adapt the system to the car and driving style. Many pedal boxes are used together with separate master cylinders and a balance bar, so the brake pressure between the front and rear axle can be adjusted more precisely. This makes pedal boxes particularly relevant in cars where the braking system has been modified, where the weight distribution has changed, or where more precise control is wanted under hard driving.

Compared with standard pedal setups, pedal boxes often provide better options for individual adjustment. This can include pedal travel, leverage ratio, position, balance and choice of master cylinders. This is important in motorsport and custom builds, where standard parts do not always suit the car’s new setup or the intended driving characteristics. A correctly chosen pedal box can therefore be crucial for braking performance, modulation, ergonomics and reliability.
