MaxxECU RACE

MaxxECU RACE is a serious standalone engine management system for projects where higher demands are placed on functions, flexibility, and data quality than on the smaller MaxxECU models. It is developed for more demanding performance and motorsport projects and is well suited to everything from powerful road cars and track day cars to dedicated competition cars and advanced engine swaps. MaxxECU itself describes RACE as a very versatile engine management system, and the official specification covers engines from 3 to 12 cylinders, with up to 8 cylinders fully sequentially and up to 12 cylinders in wasted spark.

One of the major strengths of MaxxECU RACE is that it is built for more advanced setups with more options for control and expansion. The official RACE specification includes, among other things, 8 peak/hold injector outputs, 8 ignition outputs, 6 extra 0-5V inputs, 4 extra digital inputs, 2 trigger inputs, 2 knock sensor inputs, 2 extra temperature inputs, and up to 8 EGT TYPE-K/N inputs via a separate harness. This makes RACE suitable for projects where a more extensive sensor package, more advanced engine monitoring, and better control over fuel, ignition, and engine safety under load are required.

The RACE model also includes the functions many expect in a modern performance ECU. MaxxECU states built-in wideband support for Bosch LSU 4.2 and 4.9, an internal MAP sensor for up to 3 bar of boost pressure on the classic RACE version, and MTune as the shared software platform for tuning, monitoring, and data logging. In the standard set, it is also stated that certain functions such as knock and E-throttle require harness 2 to achieve full functionality, which is important to include in a category text so customers do not assume that all options are always included in the base package.

MaxxECU RACE is therefore a strong choice for those who want an advanced and flexible programmable engine management system for more demanding projects, but without necessarily going all the way up to PRO. It is well suited to builds where there is a need for more inputs and outputs, better sensor coverage, internal logging, and the possibility to expand the system with extra harnesses, CAN solutions, and motorsport functions according to the level of the project. At the same time, RACE H2O variants are also available with IP67 water protection for more exposed installations.
