Charge pipes
Charge pipes are used in turbocharged cars, performance cars, and custom builds where the charge air on the pressure side after the turbo needs to be routed safely and efficiently through the system. A charge pipe is typically located in the part of the intake system where the compressed air moves from the turbo or intercooler and onward toward the engine intake, depending on the vehicle setup. This makes charge pipes an important part of a turbo setup, where airflow, durability, and sealing are all highly important.
A charge pipe is often chosen as an upgrade when the original solution is a limitation, or when a more durable solution is desired for higher boost pressure and greater loads than standard. On many cars, the original pipes are made from plastic or thinner materials that may be less suitable for tuning and harder use. That is why charge pipes are often used on upgraded road cars, track day cars, and motorsport projects where improved reliability and a more performance-oriented setup are desired.
Charge pipes are also used on projects involving larger intercoolers, turbo upgrades, or other modifications to the charge air system. In these cases, the right solution can help provide a more stable and efficient airflow path on the pressure side, while also fitting better with the rest of the setup. The choice of charge pipe typically depends on the vehicle model, engine type, connections, pipe routing, and the overall turbo and intake setup.
