Actuators
Wastegate actuators are used to control the wastegate on turbo engines and are an important part of boost pressure regulation. The actuator works by responding to pressure or vacuum and moving a rod that opens or closes the wastegate. This has a direct effect on when the wastegate begins to open, how the turbo builds boost and how stable the boost pressure remains under load.
In many turbo setups, wastegate actuators are used as a central part of the overall boost control. They are often seen on turbos with an internal wastegate, where the actuator helps control the wastegate flap directly. The choice of actuator can affect response, base boost pressure and how the system reacts together with the boost controller, pressure hoses and the rest of the turbo setup.
Wastegate actuators are available in different types and specifications depending on the turbo and the intended use. Some are made as simple pressure-controlled solutions, while others are adjustable or developed for more precise control in performance and motorsport setups. Spring pressure, stroke length, bracket design, rod type and compatibility with the turbo are all important factors when choosing the right solution.
