Arm restraints

Arm restraints are used in motorsport as part of the driver’s safety equipment. They are typically fitted between the driver’s arms and the harnesses and help keep the arms inside the car in the event of an accident, rollover or heavy impact. This is especially relevant in open cars, drag racing, speedway, rallycross and other motorsport disciplines where the driver’s arms may be exposed in an accident.

The straps are designed to limit arm movement without unnecessarily locking the driver in place. They must provide enough freedom of movement to control the car correctly, while still preventing the arms from leaving the cabin during a collision or rollover.

When choosing arm restraints, you should pay attention to fit, adjustment, mounting, compatibility with harnesses and any approvals such as FIA or SFI. For competition use, you should always check the requirements in the regulations the car must comply with.
