Digital dashes

Digital dashes are used in cars where a more complete and advanced display of engine and vehicle data is wanted than with traditional gauges alone. They are especially relevant in motorsport, performance cars and custom builds, where the driver needs a quick overview of important information such as RPM, temperatures, pressures, voltage, speed, warnings and other data while driving. A digital dash can combine several functions in one unit and provide a cleaner and more functional cockpit.

In many projects, digital dashes are chosen because they make it possible to display several values at the same time without filling the dashboard with many separate gauges. This can be a major advantage in cars where space is limited, or where a cleaner and more professional setup is wanted. At the same time, a digital dash often makes it possible to customise the display so the most important data is shown clearly under the conditions the car is actually used in.

Digital dashes are often used in motorsport, where quick reading and clear information can be crucial under load. They are also popular in performance cars and custom builds, where the original instrumentation no longer matches the car’s setup or the desired level of information. In some solutions, the dash works purely as a display, while in other builds it also works together with data logging, warning functions and more advanced engine management.

One of the advantages of digital dashes is that they can give the driver a combined overview of the car’s most important values in real time. This makes it easier to react quickly if something changes, and at the same time provides a better opportunity to monitor the engine and systems during both normal driving and hard load. On cars with tuning, turbo setups, motorsport use or custom-built electronics, it can be a major advantage to have the most important information gathered in one place.

When choosing a digital dash, it is important to look at more than just screen size and design. Compatibility with sensors, ECU, CAN bus, signal types, display options and the specific vehicle setup all have a major effect on whether the solution fits the project correctly. It is also important to consider which data actually needs to be displayed, and how the dash is to be integrated into the car’s existing systems.
