Electronic boost controllers
Boost controllers are used in turbo cars where more precise control of the turbo’s boost pressure is wanted than with a standard setup alone. They are an important part of many performance cars, motorsport cars and custom builds where boost is adjusted in relation to the engine setup, turbo, fuel system and the desired characteristics under load. A boost controller makes it possible to control how and how quickly the boost pressure builds, and what level the system should operate at.
In many projects, boost controllers are used to gain better control over the turbo’s function and the engine’s response. This can be relevant both on modified road cars and more demanding setups where precise boost control is important for both performance and reliability. A correctly adjusted controller can help provide a more stable and controlled build-up of boost pressure, which is important in cars where the engine is working closer to the limit than standard.
Electronic boost controllers often provide more possibilities for fine adjustment and control, and they are therefore often used in more advanced performance and motorsport builds where greater precision and more adjustment options are wanted.
When choosing a boost controller, it is important to look at more than just the type of controller. Compatibility with the wastegate, turbo setup, vacuum and pressure hoses, signal control and the overall engine setup all have a major effect on whether the solution fits the car correctly. It is also important to remember that a boost controller does not work on its own, but functions as part of a complete system where tuning and correct setup are crucial.
