Driveshafts

Driveshafts are an important part of the car’s drivetrain and are responsible for transferring power from the gearbox and differential out to the wheels. They operate under high load and must also be able to handle movement from the suspension, steering and body movement during driving. This places high demands on both strength, precision and durability, especially on high-powered cars, motorsport vehicles or custom builds.

A driveshaft typically consists of the shaft itself along with joints, boots and related components that make it possible to transfer power consistently, even when the wheels move up and down or turn under load. On front-wheel-drive cars and many vehicles with independent rear suspension, driveshafts are a central part of the entire drivetrain, and if they do not match the car’s setup correctly, it can cause vibrations, play, uneven power delivery or increased wear on other parts.

When choosing driveshafts, it is important to consider the vehicle model, length, spline, joint type and the load the shafts must be able to handle. On standard road cars, it is often about reliable replacement, while in performance and motorsport applications there is often a need for stronger solutions that can handle higher torque, hard launches and more aggressive driving. In custom-built cars, it may also be necessary to choose driveshafts that fit modified suspension setups, changed track width or engine and gearbox conversions.
