Cat-back exhausts
Cat-back exhausts are a popular upgrade for anyone who wants better sound, a sportier look and freer exhaust flow. A cat-back system replaces the part of the exhaust located after the catalytic converter and typically consists of centre pipe, silencer, rear silencer and tailpipe, depending on the car model and system type.
A cat-back exhaust can give the car a deeper and more distinctive sound without necessarily changing the catalytic converter or downpipe. This makes it suitable for road cars, performance cars and trackday builds where you want a sportier character without changing the entire exhaust system.
By upgrading to a cat-back system, the exhaust can achieve more efficient flow than the original system. This can reduce restriction in the rear section of the exhaust and give the engine better working conditions, especially on cars with tuning, larger turbo or other performance upgrades.
Cat-back exhausts are available in different materials, pipe diameters and silencer designs. Many performance systems are made from stainless steel, often SS304, which provides high durability, good corrosion resistance and long service life. The choice of pipe diameter, silencer and tailpipe has a major impact on sound level, flow and the overall look of the car.
Many cat-back systems are bolt-on solutions that fit directly to the car’s original mounting points. This makes installation easier and ensures a clean fit when the system is developed specifically for the individual car model.
A cat-back exhaust is an obvious upgrade for anyone who wants a sportier sound, a better visual appearance and a more performance-oriented exhaust setup. Together with the correct engine setup and other exhaust parts, a cat-back system can be an important part of a complete tuning or motorsport build.
