Coolers

Coolers for the engine cooling system are used to keep the coolant, and thereby the engine operating temperature, under control. This is the type of cooler that normally sits as a central part of the vehicle’s cooling system, and its purpose is to transfer heat away from the hot coolant after it has circulated through the engine. When the cooler works correctly, it helps keep the engine at a stable temperature during both normal driving and more demanding use.

This type of cooler is important in almost all vehicles, because the engine generates significant amounts of heat during operation. If the heat is not removed efficiently, the temperature can rise enough to affect the engine’s function, durability and reliability. Excessive temperature can, among other things, put stress on gaskets, the cylinder head, the oil and other components in the engine bay. A cooler is therefore not just a standard part, but a crucial part of a properly functioning cooling system.

The choice of cooler depends on factors such as engine size, power output, vehicle use, available space and how much air passes through the cooler. Material, core size, thickness, connections and overall design all affect how well the cooler works in practice. In many projects, it is also important to consider the interaction with cooling fans, shroud, hoses, expansion tank, thermostat and water pump, so the entire system works correctly together.
