Individual throttle bodies

Individual throttle bodies, often abbreviated as ITB, are used in motorsport, performance cars, and custom engine projects where a more direct and responsive airflow to the engine is desired. Instead of one shared throttle body, each cylinder gets its own throttle body, which provides sharper throttle response and a more performance-oriented engine character. This makes individual throttle bodies a popular solution, especially on naturally aspirated engines, where intake design, response, and sound play a major role in the overall driving experience and function.

This type of intake solution is often chosen for projects built with a focus on fast response, high airflow, and a more tailored setup than standard. Individual throttle bodies are used on motorsport engines, track day cars, kit cars, classic performance builds, and other custom projects where the intake side of the engine is developed with a clear performance goal. At the same time, ITB solutions are known for their distinctive intake sound, which for many is an important part of both the driving feel and the engine experience.

The choice of individual throttle bodies typically depends on engine type, number of cylinders, bolt pattern, throttle body size, intake manifold, and the desired engine setup. On some projects, the focus is maximum response and a sharp engine character, while on others it is about combining performance, packaging, and a cleaner engine bay. That is why individual throttle bodies are often used together with custom manifolds, airboxes, filters, and programmable engine management, so the complete solution matches the specific setup.
