Filters
Air filters are an important part of the engine’s intake system and have a major impact on air quality, operational reliability and the overall function of the car. The job of the filter is to clean the air before it reaches the engine, so dust, dirt and other particles are not drawn into the intake. This is relevant for standard cars, modified road cars, motorsport cars and custom builds, where a stable and clean air supply is important.
When choosing an air filter, it is not only about whether it fits physically. Filter type, size, material and construction also affect how it works in practice. Some air filters are used as direct replacements for the original filter in the airbox, while others are used in open intake solutions, custom-built airboxes or universal setups. The right choice therefore depends on the car, available space, intake layout and the intended purpose.
K&N air filters are among the best-known choices when a quality filter is wanted for both standard and performance-oriented solutions. K&N is especially known for its oiled cotton filters, which are designed to be cleaned and reused. This makes them interesting for many who want a solution that can be maintained rather than simply replaced. K&N air filters are used both as panel filters for original airboxes and as open filters for universal intake solutions.
One of the advantages of K&N air filters is that they combine filtration with high airflow. This means they are often chosen by both enthusiasts and professionals who want a well-thought-out intake solution with focus on function, quality and long service life. At the same time, it is important to understand that the overall effect of an air filter always depends on the rest of the intake system. A good filter is one part of a complete solution, where placement, temperature, shielding and airflow routing also play a major role.
Open air filters are often used in projects where a more flexible setup is wanted, or where special solutions are used because the original airbox no longer fits. In these types of setups, filters are often chosen based on connection diameter, filter height, outer dimensions and the space available in the engine bay. In this type of solution, it is also important to consider heat from the engine bay, placement in relation to fresh air and possible use of a filter box or protective cover.
Panel filters, on the other hand, are often relevant if you want to keep the original airbox while still choosing a quality filter. This can be an obvious solution on cars where you want a more discreet setup, but still want an air filter with good properties. K&N panel filters are popular in this type of solution because they fit directly in many original air filter housings and can be maintained over time with proper cleaning and oiling.
Maintenance is especially important when it comes to K&N air filters and other oiled cotton filters. When the filter is cleaned, not only dirt is removed, but also the oil that helps capture fine particles. This is why the filter must always be re-oiled correctly after cleaning. A filter that receives the right care can be used again and again as part of ongoing service. This is exactly one of the reasons why many choose K&N air filters as a long-term solution.
For installation, our T-bolt clamps can be used.

Frequently asked questions about K&N filters (click to open)
What is the difference between K&N and K&N-style filters?
K&N filters are original products from the American brand K&N, known for high quality and performance. K&N-style filters look and work in a similar way, but are non-original. They are often cheaper, but may have a slightly shorter service life and slightly lower flow. For many track day and road cars, K&N-style is a solid choice.
How much horsepower do your K&N filters support?
We have models from 320 hp up to 600 hp, depending on size and type. We have tried to state the recommended hp limit on the product, so you choose correctly for your setup.
Does the K&N filter fit my car?
K&N filters are universal and clamp-on, which means they fit all cars as long as the dimensions match your intake. They are often used in custom setups, turbo builds, intercooler piping or when replacing the airbox.
Is a K&N filter better than the original?
Yes, especially for performance use. A K&N filter gives lower restriction, better airflow and can help increase engine efficiency. Especially on turbo engines, it can make a noticeable difference under high load.
Are K&N filters legal in Denmark?
As a general rule: Yes, absolutely! But with reservations. As long as the K&N filter does not significantly change the car’s noise level and is mounted securely, it is approved for road use. The K&N filter must also be installed in a closed box. For inspections or vehicle modifications, you should always check the rules.
Can I use a K&N filter on a diesel engine?
Yes, a K&N filter for diesel is a popular upgrade, especially on turbo diesel setups. The filter provides better airflow and can help with response and performance.
Do I need to maintain my K&N filter?
Most K&N and K&N-style filters can be cleaned and reused, but how often depends on driving conditions. For track day use or very dusty environments, more frequent cleaning may be necessary. We recommend K&N filter maintenance if you want to keep your filter in top condition.
Is a K&N filter a disposable filter?
No, most K&N filters can be cleaned and reused for up to 1 million kilometres if maintained correctly.
What is an open air filter?
An open air filter, such as those from K&N and K&N-style, usually replaces the car’s original airbox and sits freely in the engine bay. This means that air is drawn directly through the filter without restrictions from the factory closed system. The advantage is more direct airflow and typically a more aggressive intake sound, especially under high load. It can provide better throttle response and in some cases increased power, especially on turbo engines. The downside is that open filters can draw hot air from the engine bay, which reduces performance. That is why it is recommended to use a heat shield or cold air intake setup so the filter receives cooler and denser air, which the engine performs better with.
