Stainless steel pipes & bends

Stainless steel pipes are used in many types of vehicle projects where a strong, durable, and corrosion-resistant solution is needed for building pipe systems. They are often used for exhaust systems, downpipes, screamer pipes, custom-made pipe systems, and other installations where the material must be able to withstand high temperatures, vibrations, and load over time. In tuning, motorsport, and custom builds, stainless steel pipes are a popular choice because they combine good strength with long service life and a clean finish.

One of the advantages of stainless steel pipes is that they are well suited to demanding environments where ordinary steel pipes would rust more quickly or be affected by heat and moisture. That is why they are often used in exhaust systems and other solutions where both durability and reliability are important. Stainless steel pipes are also an obvious choice when you want to build a system that both works well and looks more professional.

When choosing stainless steel pipes, it is important to consider diameter, wall thickness, length, material, and how the pipes will be used in the specific project. It makes a big difference whether the pipes are to be used for exhaust, pressure systems, or other technical installations, and it is important to choose a solution that matches temperature, load, and the desired design. Together with the right bends, joiners, and fittings, stainless steel pipes can form the basis for a strong and reliable solution.

The difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel pipes
When choosing stainless steel pipes, you will often come across grades 304 and 316. Both are stainless steel grades with good durability and high resistance to rust, but there are some important differences between them.

The biggest difference is that stainless 316 contains molybdenum. This makes the material more resistant to corrosion from chlorides, salt, and more aggressive environments. 316 also has a slightly higher nickel content, while 304 typically has a higher chromium content. A common composition for 304 is approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel, while 316 typically contains around 16% chromium, 10% nickel, and 2% molybdenum.

In practice, 304 and 316 look very similar, and for most vehicle and performance projects, 304 is the most commonly used choice. That is because 304 provides a very good combination of corrosion resistance, strength, and price. For that reason, 304 is often used for exhaust systems, pipe systems, and many other solutions where a durable material is wanted at a reasonable price.

316 is typically chosen for more demanding environments where the material is exposed to salt, moisture, chemicals, or acidic conditions. This makes 316 especially relevant in marine environments or other installations where the corrosion load is higher than normal.
