Head gaskets

Head gaskets are a critical part of the engine assembly and are located between the cylinder head and the engine block. Their job is to seal the combustion chambers while also keeping the oil and coolant passages separated, allowing the engine to operate correctly under both temperature and pressure. That is why the head gasket plays a major role in reliability, compression, and the overall durability of the engine.

A head gasket must be able to withstand high loads from heat, pressure, and movement within the engine. If the head gasket does not seal properly, it can lead to problems such as loss of compression, overheating, oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil. For that reason, the head gasket is an important component both in standard engine rebuilding and in performance projects where the engine is subjected to higher loads than standard.

The choice of head gasket depends on the engine build and the intended use. In some cases, a standard head gasket is sufficient, while in other engines a stronger solution may be needed, especially with higher compression, turbo, supercharger, or motorsport applications. Here, material choice, thickness, and construction can play a major role in how the engine performs and how well it remains sealed under load.
